Contracts for senior managers
Senior management people are usually given short term contracts. If they create a mess, the just leave and the rest have to bear the consequences. Hence I suggest that senior management not be allowed to leave after their contract. If they are senior managers for x years, they should be ordinary employee for x/2 years (perhaps with a higher pay). If they leave after x years but before x/2 years, they have to pay back a significant amount of money. that way senior managers
have at least some incentive to think long term (beyond their contract). this will work well in an academic environment where the Vice-Chancellor or President has tospend some time as Dean, the Dean as Head of Dept, the HoD as normal academic etc.
