Job Ready Degrees
What are UG degrees that make one job ready? Is it just a convenient way for industry to avoid running training programs for new recruits? What is lost when "industry relevant training" is included in the UG degree?
How can industry get new ideas if students do not provide them? The vicious cycle of students not wanting to learn something not used in industy and industry unwilling to adopt something because they cannot find the graduates will not be broken.
My hope is that fresh graduates have the ability to take a fresh look at practices in their place of work. Critical thinking, problem solving etc. are the key skills. But these skills are hard to acquire and students want to avoid subjects that teach them. The Universities substitute such subjects with "internships". While internships are good, they should only follow after the student has a sound understanding of the fundamentals.
